Nothing like a columnist that knows not of what he speaks! Old school hip hop has nothing on the newer, materialistic, mysogynist braggadocia that is coming out today. Most old school had a storyline and a message, usually with a subtle political statement.Gangsta rap and a lot of southern rap is perfunctory, with little thought behind the words other than to make them rhyme. YOU PEOPLE,aren't going to be satisfied with anything this man does or says,it'll always have a negative swing, but it is amusing to see you fall on your face by making references w/out knowing what your talking about....shows the world what YOU ARE about!

To Maddie... No idea how true any of this article is or how reliable this "trash" site is (found my way here through a link from a friend and am now stupidly putting my email address up top... but just for arguments sake...)
Are you retarded? What does 50 Cent have to do with old school hip-hop? Nothing! What does being a Nobel Prize winner have to do with music choice? Again, nothing! I won't pull the race card out on you, but I 100% fully accuse you of class discrimination due to various comments in your article... 1) the "old school" hip-hop he would be referring to here would most definitely fall under more political themes and far less materialistic than some "candy shop" nonsense you quoted. 2) A person doesn't have to be oppressed or living in places like the South Bronx to appreciate the messages found in a positive hip-hop record 3) Matter of fact, I really wish more upper class folks (doesn't get more upper class than the white house I suppose), politicians & elitists would open their ears to the messages about oppression. If they did, maybe they could use their power to remedy those situations and the world would be a better place... Also, you should know that any good producer, hip-hop or otherwise (especially hip-hop actually, due to vast sources of instrumentation in a quality hip-hop production) can appreciate any genre of music, classical included. It's in the job description. You'd be shocked to know how many open-minded music lovers (myself included) can appreciate good classical music and good hip-hop for what they are. Reading your article tells me that clearly you must listen to Nickleback, or maybe American Idol is more your speed.
For the record, I don't even care for Obama. True, he makes George Dubya look like a kid with down syndrome (no offense to you), but at the end of the day all Presidents are shady. Actually, they are puppets who work for a higher power, but that's besides the point. I only mention it so you don't label me as a biased liberal or something as a way to disregard my response.
