1.Blast outside school in Afghanistan kills 25
MOHAMMAD AGHA, Afghanistan – An explosion outside a school south of the Afghan capital on Thursday killed at least 25 people, including 15 students, officials said, the worst toll from a single blast in a year.It was the latest incident in an escalation of violence across Afghanistan since U.S. Marines launched a new offensive a week ago in the Taliban bastion of Helmand.
2.Bomb blasts kill 43 as violence surges in Iraq
BAGHDAD, Iraq - A spate of bomb blasts killed 43 people in Iraq on Thursday, days after U.S. troops handed security control to local forces.
At least 35 people were killed and 65 wounded in a double suicide bombing in northern Iraq on Thursday morning, according to the Nineveh Military Operations Command.The bombers struck the city of Tal Afar in Nineveh province, where political tensions have recently increased between Arabs and Kurds. Violence erupted in Nineveh on Wednesday as well.
3.South Carolina girl, 8, dies after two shots to head
The girl’s father is dating Ricky Lee Blackwell’s estranged wife. Spartanburg County deputies said Blackwell shot the girl twice in the driveway of a home where he had taken her and his estranged wife to swim and play. The home is in Chesnee, about 60 miles southwest of Charlotte, N.C.Several adults and children saw the shooting and pointed officers toward Blackwell, investigators said.
Blackwell shot himself as police closed in. He was taken to a hospital but his condition wasn’t released.The coroner’s office identified the girl as Heather Brooke Center of Woodruff.Investigators said they weren’t sure of Blackwell’s motive. Well it’s very important to know the motive for killing a girl 8 years old, so will know if Blackwell it’s innocent or not.
